About
us

Wish You Were Here may be new to us, but it has a long history in the city of Lancaster.

The building that the restaurant is housed was built back in the 1850's and the huge fireplace in the downstairs dining room is proof of the old architecture. The main dining room floor rolls with the warped wood of old houses, and the stairs show the signs of hundreds of footsteps over the years.

Back in the 1980's, the building was host to the Orange Street Tea Room, a favorite haunt of many who still live in the area. In the late 80's, Betsy Maerz took over the place and regaled the city with her fine cooking. For twelve years, Wish You Were Here reigned as one of the best kept secrets in Lancaster City.

New ownership began in the fall of 2001. Every effort has been made to retain the quaint, comfortable atmosphere and excellent food that the previous owner established but as with all things, change must come and we feel the changes have been for the better. We have added homemade bread and in-house art but have kept the high quality and the cool little touches that have made Wish You Were Here a favorite stop. Newcomers will enjoy the little tea pots and fresh squeezed juices, house-brewed iced tea and unique menu. Omelettes are made in the true French tradition and eggs are cooked to order, just the way you like them. The staff is happy and helpful and we try to have a good time while we are serving you.

Wish You Were Here is available on the weekdays for private parties and receptions:

Wedding Receptions, Business Luncheons, Staff Christmas Breakfasts or Afternoon Teas are perfect for the downstairs dining room which affords privacy and access to the courtyard garden.
